Hartford’s new skating rink is huge and doesn’t cost the city a penny — in fact, it actually requires inaction on the city’s part!

I like to look through the terms people searched to find our humble little blog. Mostly, it’s not that interesting — though some of the searches that lead to the Gay Guru can be pretty hilarious. But this morning, I found this:
“what up wit powder ridge ct”
C’mon, Connecticut! Is this really how you search? This is not a text message! You do not have to type with your thumbs. There is no excuse for this!
Sunday night I met my family for dinner at Archie Moore’s in Fairfield. I should have treasured the buffalo chicken wrap I ordered, because as of Monday afternoon their famous buffalo sauce is in short supply. On Monday, some genius accidentally spilled four giant barrels of sauce as he was unloading them from a truck, sending more than 200 gallons onto the street outside. Read the rest of this entry »
I’m starting to think we should check into the condition of politicians’ residences during their campaigns. Apparently, about 1/3 of all our state politicians run for office simply to get work done on their homes by state contractors. But seriously folks… if you haven’t already heard good old Eddie Perez has turned himself in to state police, and is facing bribery charges, but will not be stepping down as the mayor of New England’s Rising Star. (Really, who would give up that prestigious gig?) Read the rest of this entry »
Koji TOTALLY wants to be hip and cool and funky and trendy. If it were a person, it would totally have floppy hair in its face and very skinny jeans.
Unlike most Asian restaurants, the staff is mainly Caucasian. The atmosphere is dark with a neon glow coming off the bar. It’s definitely trying to feel like New York City and its small size definitely helps with that — though there was distinct lack of urine stench. Read the rest of this entry »
Back in December, it was announced that the lobby of Theaterworks was going to become home to a satellite branch of the New Britain Museum of American Art. Friday night was “the big reveal” of the new space. Let me be honest…I had no idea this was happening until some of the girls from the office asked if I wanted to go and get a glass of free wine from Bin 228. Umm…free wine? Yeah, duh. So off we went to the newly dubbed “City Arts” (which funnily enough, also houses an Army recruiting office) to see what was going on. Read the rest of this entry »
There is an article in The Journal Inquirer about the new deputy chief at the Shaker Pines Fire Department.
Where the Hell is Shaker Pines? Read the rest of this entry »
Has anyone else seen the Rellster’s pandemic flu commercial?
Were you as baffled by it as I was?
Did you wonder how much money gets spent on “Pandemic Flu Preparedness” in this time of great financial turmoil? Read the rest of this entry »
Just like in Stand By Me — you know the Jerry O’Connell, River Phoenix film classic — a body has been found by train tracks in Rocky Hill. Read the rest of this entry »
Sometimes, after watching that show “It Takes a Thief” I briefly consider a life of crime, because apparently, people with a lot of valuable shit just leave their windows and doors wide open. I guess I’m not the only one:
Police this morning arrested the suspected leader of a burglary ring that netted thousands of dollars of stolen jewelry and other items in a rash of “pillowcase” burglaries in greater Hartford. Read the rest of this entry »
January 20, 2009. Finally the day has come where the very vocal W haters can take those 1-20-09 bumper stickers off their car!
It also means the doubters of the now President Obama will sarcastically start saying, “Here comes the change!” The thing most of them will probably not realize is that some of “the change” has already happened. The view other countries around the world, friendly and not so friendly, have of the US has been changed. They know they have someone in the White House that they can respect and who actually understands the issues going on. I’d say that’s a change. Read the rest of this entry »
For a long time I’ve thought our generation would be asked, “Where were you on 9/11?” the way our parents or grandparents ask the same about JFK’s assassination. But today, I’ve decided that rather than recounting where we were on that morning, we may be asked where we were on this morning, when Barack Obama was inaugurated as the President of the United States of America?
