“Irish Jews” Ruin Man’s Day

1 01 2009

Normally, when you hear about someone making racially motivated threats you expect the people involved to actually be of different races. But apparently that is not always the case.

Yves Lapointe of 146 Union St., Apt. 1, in Vernon, was arraigned Friday before Judge Kenneth L. Shluger in Vernon Superior Court on charges of second-degree threatening and third-degree intimidation due to racial bias.

I’m going out on a limb here and say Lapointe is of French ancestry–possibly French Canadian–but if he turns out to be Haitian or something this story might end up making more sense. In any case, the JI reported the guy repeatedly called his ex-landlord an “Irish Jew”–this development could add a whole new dimension to Northern Ireland’s troubles.

But this completely nonsensical slur is the least ridiculous part of this story. Here is the part that really cracks me up:

Lapointe at first denied writing the letter, but later contradicted himself by saying that “he did write the letter even though he did not,” the warrant said.

Though this little slip up isn’t that surprising considering the article also says that Lapointe appeared to be intoxicated, and slurred his…um…slurs when he called the landlord to harass him.
