Adventures in House Hunting: Shifty Contractors

You’ve not doubt noticed that we haven’t exactly been prolific lately. Well, we’ve got a lot going on so get off our backs already.

As you may heard, the Asian Persuasion is planning a wedding, which I consider to be private hell and therefore try to stay out of. I, on the other hand, have been going through that other torturous process that makes it onto “Life’s Most Stressful Events” list: buying a house.

As I’ve said before, I’m buying a house that is being flipped by people I know (as well as being haunted by a  guy I know). I figured it was meant to be! Then we scheduled the closing for my birthday. Still later than I would have liked, but it seemed fortuitous. Then, just a week before my 30th birthday *le sigh* the shit hit the fan.

First, the contractor had a heart attack. Then it turned out he didn’t so much as have a heart attack as have a heart episode most likely brought on by being in way over his head, and knowing damn well he was taking money for work her had not done. For instance, there was no insulation behind the walls and the windows were in all wrong. As you might imagine, this slowed things down…again. (I’d tell you his name but there is a lawsuit pending.)

Now we’re scheduled to close at the end of the month, and in the meantime I’m living with my aunt — saving money and obsessively vacuuming so my cats’ hair doesn’t take over her life. *Double le sigh*

Despite the delays I like to think the universe is looking out for me — or maybe it’s that ghost. If there hadn’t been a “heart episode” I’d probably be moving into a green disaster, and my windows would fall out mid-winter. Now I know everyone will be going over every little detail.

So, you’ll just have to forgive us if we haven’t been able to keep up our normal level of snark output. We’re busy…for once.
