Art Sleds & Outhouses

You may have had enough snow for the season, but on Saturday plenty of snow-sport enthusiasts turned out in Elizabeth Park for the First Annual Hartford Art Sled Derby. What the heck is that, you ask? Well, it’s kind of like a box car derby, on snow, with drag queens and out houses.

Yeah…I said drag queens and outhouses. If you want to see a video of Mucha in her pink, Priscilla Queen of the Desert-inspired sled, hit our Facebook page. But Mucha wasn’t the only awesome sledder out there. There was a dude in a La-Z-Boy recliner on two snowboards, some sort of dragon, thing, and the aforementioned outhouse.

It was a pretty impressive turnout–probably a dozen or so entrants–for the first year, especially considering I didn’t even hear about it until the day before. Plenty of locals with adorable dogs, and snowshoes turned out to enjoy the festivities. Next year, it’ll be even better…snow gods willing.
