Have you driven North out of Hartford on 91 lately? Have you noticed the Long View RV jumbotron sign? Well, I have, and it’s really sticking in my craw.
As late as Thursday morning the electronic sign outside the RV dealer, and directly on the side of 91 North, said “All Lives Matter” and something like “Bring America Together.” I actually had to check my rear view mirror to see if I had misread the sign because, Why would a RV dealer be weighing in on politics and the news of the day on a billboard? It makes about as much sense as a failed businessman and trashy reality star running for President of the United States.
Surely whoever is in charge of the digital billboard has the right to free speech, and can put whatever he wants on the sign, but it seems like bad business to me.
Here’s a good rule of thumb for businesses: Don’t announce your ignorance before I even walk in the door.
I won’t even go so far as to call the sign racist. I will simply assume that it’s the brainchild of someone who doesn’t understand that there is an implied TOO in #BlackLivesMatter–and who is honestly worried that the lives of white people who have $100,000 to blow on a recreational vehicle are not valued by our society. The fact still remains, no one wants or needs your opinion on the matter. If someone does come in to give you business because of that sign–instead of high-tailing it to your competitor– you should probably ask if he is mentally stable enough to sign legally binding loan documents? Also, ask if he has any ties to a militia.
If you’re a local business owner with fancy signage capabilities–or even if you just have a chalkboard on the sidewalk–let’s stick to specials of the day, and stupid jokes. Because, let’s face it, no one actually cares what you think about anything.
